If you had told me ten years ago that I’d be running a business, I probably would’ve laughed. Back then, I was just a mom, an educator, and someone trying to figure out what to do with her natural hair. I’d walk down aisles full of products, yet nothing felt like it was truly made for me—or for women who look like me. So, like many of us do when we can’t find what we need, I went to my kitchen and started mixing.
What began as me just trying to care for my own hair turned into something bigger than I ever imagined. Family and friends tried my creations and kept coming back, not just because the products worked, but because they felt good—real, natural, and made with intention. In 2020, I finally listened to their encouragement and started sharing Purely Lavinia with the world, officially making it an LLC in 2021.
The name Lavinia carries legacy. It belonged to my grandmother, a strong, bold matriarch whose presence shaped everyone around her. I carry that name as my own middle name, and I passed it on to my oldest daughter, too. Every time someone says “Purely Lavinia,” it reminds me of her strength, resilience, and love—a reminder that this journey is bigger than me.
For a while, I kept it small, almost afraid to believe in what Purely Lavinia could become. But in 2025, something shifted. I realized this isn’t just about hair care. It’s about empowerment, healing, and growth. When you take time to care for yourself on the outside, it sparks something on the inside too. My hope is that these products not only help you look and feel amazing, but also inspire you to keep doing the inner work to become the best version of yourself.
